We met Gemma Riu a few months ago and, when she told us her story and the harshness of it, her voice transmitted an unstoppable force. With a career dedicated to business and investment management, Gemma has more than 16 years leading projects in Andorra. However, her real impact began in 2022, when she decided to break decades of silence to denounce the sexual abuse she suffered when she was starting to be a teenager at the hands of her coach at the Terrassa Swimming Club. He studied Economics, Financial Management and an MBA, among other studies, but his life took a turn after confronting his past. What began as an intimate testimony at Diari Ara became a movement: today she gives talks and has collaborated with prevention protocols in Andorra. Today, Gemma demonstrates a maturity that transcends her age. Not only has she managed to heal her wounds, but she has developed incredible emotional resilience. With several projects to his credit, he advocates for a transparent sports culture, where protection takes precedence over results. Within the sector, his goal is clear: to democratize security, bringing resources to small clubs and breaking taboos. And so, through the catharsis of telling her story, Gemma Riu has not only rewritten it, but today she continues to help others to avoid living the same story as her.
In each interview, Gemma Riu makes it clear that her struggle is not personal, but collective. In the Diari Ara he stated about his experience: "I have forgotten in order to survive". This often occurs in experiences where shame and other factors prevent the victim from facing the pain of the wound. Time, help and love from the environment are key to being able to heal and face events like those reported by Gemma.
